October Favorites

Autumn in Ulsan

Thanks Ceri from Into the Pink, for the inspiration for today’s post!

5 Favorites & Highlights From the Month of October

1. Festivals

I’ve mentioned in a previous post how Korea has tons of festivals all year long. Coming from California, festivals just weren’t really prevalent. When I lived in Melbourne, Australia, they also had a festival almost every weekend. They’re my favorite way to spend time in a foreign country – they’re usually free, there are always cultural aspects and they usually have an interesting focus. The Busan Fireworks Festival was my absolute favorite, with the Busan International Film Festival as a close second.

2. Autumn

Trees are one of my favorite things in the world, especially when they have the ability to change colors (go to San Diego and you’d have no idea it was Fall because palm trees unfortunately don’t change colors). Korea has a beautiful Autumn:

3. NBA and NFL

It’s that beautiful time of the year where both football and basketball are on! GO NINERS & KINGS!!

4. Halloween, obviously

I absolutely love this holiday. It was super fun teaching my kids about it and spoiling them with candy (I told the 6 students in my after school class that if they came to my desk on Halloween and said “trick-or-treat”, I’d give them candy. Naturally, a hundred more students came to my desk as well). It’s also a good time to get in touch with my crafty side. The boyfriend and I decided last minute to make costumes and were a Gryffindor and Slytherin from Harry Potter. I failed at taking pictures of us together, unfortunately.

Not bad for $10 worth of felt, hot glue and a permanent marker.

5. Wine

I almost forgot how much I loved wine. I’ve been drinking so much Soju, I haven’t been bothered to spend more than $1.50 on an alcoholic beverage that wasn’t simultaneously a house cleaner as well. We found an amazing market in Busan that has a fabulous wine selection for pretty cheap (most wine in this country is relatively expensive).

The best combination: Fireworks & Wine (Photo Credit: Nathaniel AKA The Boyfriend) and the best multi-purpose cleaner + drink.

Goodbye October, you were good to me :)
