Winter Lovin’ | Engagement Photos

European Engagement Photos

european-engagement-photos28Ever since the boyfriend proposed a month ago, we’ve been a bit clueless about this whole “engagement”-ness. What exactly do we do now? When do we start planning? Where exactly do I put the ring when I’m not wearing it? Am I even allowed to take it off? What about when I’m washing the dishes? (Actual Google searches less than 24 hours after getting a ring to worry about.) Baffled, I say.

So we’ve started by discussing the things we do know. And we’ve concluded that after getting engaged, you take engagement photos. Right? Sounds right anyway. Unfortunately, we have two incredibly small teacher salaries (sad face) so we knew we wouldn’t be able to afford it. But we like to do things the unconventional way (read: the spontaneous and free way) and thought, what the hell – we’ll shoot these bad boys ourselves! Who needs a professional photographer when you’ve got a tripod and a timer? Who needs a perfectly lit studio when we have Austria, Slovenia and the Czech Republic as our backdrop? (Hello, winter break!)

Turns out, it’s actually pretty hilarious attempting to take your own engagement photos. In the midst of trying to figure out how to use the camera timer, positioning the tripod on rocks, gathering snow to whimsically throw in the air and struggling to keep the life in our fingers due to the -10°  coldness, we somehow managed to get some genuine candids. And, of course, we had to do the traditional cheesy engagement-y not-so-candid photos as well.

So now our holiday is unfortunately over; we’ve thoroughly defrosted under the glorious Madrid sun, the photos have been edited, we’re back at work. AND – we’re back to cluelessness: what are we supposed to do with these photos now? It’s far too soon for Save the Dates (and I’m pretty sure you need to actually know the date – much less the year – before sending those out) and aside from those, we have no idea what these photos are even for. I’ve done an embarrassing amount of research on the topic (and by research, I mean Pinteresting and Facebook-stalking people who have posted engagement-y things somewhat recently) and have found very little answers. So here they are. Because I don’t really know what else to do with them 😛 .
